Director’s Statement – “Company of Shadows

As the director of Company of Shadows, I am honored to present a film that seeks to illuminate some of the rich tapestry of human experience within the LGBTQIA+ community. This project was born out of a deep desire to explore the complexities, joys, and challenges faced by individuals navigating their identities and relationships in a world that often casts shadows upon them.

The film delves into the intricacies of love, self-discovery, and the profound impact of societal expectations on queer individuals. Through fictional characters the movie largely draws from autobiographical experiences, literally and metaphorically. Company of Shadows is not just a narrative; through fictional conflict it also discusses the torture of conversion therapy that gays have endured in history and still endure to this day. Through our characters’ experiences, we aim to illustrate that “gay” doesn’t always mean happy, while also showing that traumatic experiences can be overcome through love, acceptance, self-acceptance, and authenticity.

As a director, my hope is that Company of Shadows, underneath its dramatic entertainment value also sparks conversations, challenges preconceptions, and fosters a sense of connection among audiences. May it serve as a reminder that, even in the shadows, there is strength, resilience, and a vibrant spectrum of stories waiting to be told.

Thank you for joining us on this cinematic journey. I look forward to the conversations and reflections that Company of Shadows may inspire.
